Lithium Analysis Across the Value Chain
The LiSen Optics iSpecLIBS-HH-Li provides rapid on-site analysis of lithium ores, battery materials, and related samples. Using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), it delivers qualitative and semiquantitative results in 1 to 3 seconds with minimal sample preparation.
Dedicated optics and analytical algorithms are optimized for lithium emission lines, improving signal-to-noise ratio and measurement stability. Lithium detection limits can reach approximately 10 ppm in supported sample matrices. The analyzer also supports light-element analysis, including Be and B.
Built-in application libraries cover lithium ores, cathode materials, electrolytes, battery black mass, and related samples. These libraries can be edited and expanded for specific requirements in exploration, production control, battery manufacturing, and recycling.

Storage options of 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB support onboard recordkeeping. CSV and XLSX export, Bluetooth, USB Type-C, Wi-Fi, and GPS support data transfer, location records, and measurement traceability.
Applications

Typical Applications
Lithium Exploration and Development
For hard-rock lithium deposits such as spodumene, lepidolite, and petalite, the iSpecLIBS-HH-Li provides rapid, minimally destructive on-site measurement of Li₂O and other valuable elements. Operators can analyze mineralized outcrops, drill cores, channel samples, and ore stockpiles to obtain grade data for geological logging, ore body delineation, and mine-plan optimization.
Reducing analytical turnaround from days to seconds improves exploration efficiency, helps reduce mining dilution and ore loss, and saves time and operating costs.
End-of-Life Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling
The analyzer rapidly screens black mass, electrode foils, battery casings, and other end-of-life battery materials for Li, Co, Ni, Mn, and other valuable elements. Results support material valuation, feed blending, and process optimization to improve recovery yield and product purity.
The recycling application also includes detecting and flagging hazardous elements such as Hg and Pb to support safer handling and environmental compliance.
Lithium Extraction from Brines
Exploration teams in remote, high-altitude salt-lake regions face demanding environments and complex geology. The lightweight iSpecLIBS-HH-Li supports rapid in-situ analysis of brine, saline soil, and solid salt samples at evaporation ponds and drilling sites.
Lithium concentration data are available within seconds, while integrated GPS records each sampling location. Combining geochemical and spatial data supports lithium distribution mapping, drilling programs, and evaporation-pond planning.
